Study destinations
Studying in the UK, explained honestly
A UK study plan should start with the course content, the total cost and the conditions attached to your offer. The Student route and Graduate route have different requirements. Check both before you pay a deposit, especially when your decision depends on working during or after the course.
Use the official sources linked below for current requirements. Costs and entry conditions depend on your course and circumstances; check them before paying or applying.

Section 1
Is the UK the right fit for you?
Start with the outcome you need from the qualification. Compare course content, recognition, affordability and the practicalities of living away from home before choosing a destination. A useful shortlist should show why each programme belongs on it.
It tends to suit you if
- You have compared course modules, assessment and the final award.
- You can meet the offer conditions and fund the full course period.
- You will compare accommodation and travel at the actual campus location.
- You understand that graduate permission does not guarantee a job.
Think again if
- You assume every course or provider qualifies for the Graduate route.
- You are choosing only by a university’s overall ranking.
- You expect part-time work to cover tuition or an unfunded living budget.
- Your family plan depends on dependant eligibility that you have not checked.
Discuss your plan with anyone helping fund it. Agree on the full budget, what happens if funding changes and what you would do if you return home immediately after the course. A study decision should still make sense without an immigration outcome.
Section 2
How the application process works
Work backwards from the start of teaching and the time needed for each decision. Admission, funding, immigration and housing have different deadlines. Keep a record of submissions and written answers rather than relying on an informal conversation.
Shortlist the course, then the campus
Compare course modules, dissertation or project requirements and any placement terms. Check whether a placement is built into the award, optional or dependent on finding an employer. Entry requirements and English evidence are set for the course and must be checked directly.
Check your entry requirements
Read the programme’s academic and English-language requirements against your own qualifications. Check prerequisite subjects, assessment of earlier study and any portfolio or research requirements. Ask admissions to clarify anything your record does not directly match.
Prepare a consistent application
Gather transcripts, certificates, test results and references where required. Write a statement that reflects your own study history and reasons for choosing the course. Use the same identity details across documents and disclose earlier study or visa issues truthfully.
Compare the written offers
Read every condition before accepting. Compare the total course cost, deposit, payment dates and refund terms. Ask what happens if you miss a condition or need to defer, and get important answers in writing. A scholarship should appear in a formal award letter.
Confirm the documents for immigration
Ask your provider how it issues a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies, usually called a CAS. Check every detail before using it, including course dates, fees and payments recorded. Read deposit and refund conditions, especially where an offer remains conditional.
Prepare the visa or study-permission application
Work through the current official checklist for your nationality and circumstances. Check the source of funds, identity evidence and academic documents before submitting. Do not book non-refundable travel on an assumption about processing time or approval.
Plan the first weeks after arrival
Follow the provider’s enrolment and arrival instructions. Confirm how you access and evidence your immigration status, arrange accommodation and insurance where needed, and keep the admissions team informed if your travel date changes.
Section 3
The Student route and your CAS
The UK Student route has official requirements covering sponsorship, study and supporting evidence. A CAS supports an application; it does not guarantee that a visa will be issued. Follow GOV.UK for the rules and charges applying when you submit.
Sponsor and CAS
Check your education provider’s sponsor status and the information on your CAS. Resolve a change of course, location or dates with the provider before submitting an application.
Money and supporting documents
Use the current official instructions for financial evidence, acceptable documents and any applicable exemptions. Check required evidence for your circumstances, including health screening where relevant.
Family plans
Check the current dependant rules for your course and circumstances before making family travel or accommodation commitments. An academic offer does not establish dependant eligibility.
Conditions during study
Check the work conditions attached to your permission and the rules for your course. Confirm any proposed placement with your institution; do not assume student permission permits any employment.
Use the current official guidance linked in the source list for application charges, financial thresholds, permitted work and processing information. These can change. Check again before submitting and read the conditions of the permission actually granted to you. No consultant can guarantee a visa.
Guidance reviewed 19 October 2026. Start with GOV.UK: Student visa; follow the official route for your circumstances.
Section 4
What it actually costs
Build a course-specific budget from written quotations and official fee schedules. A national average can hide differences in course length, campus, housing and compulsory charges. Keep every figure with its currency, source, payment date and the year or period it covers.
Tuition and compulsory fees
Use the institution’s official fee schedule for your exact programme and entry year. Record the amount in GBP, whether it is annual or for the whole qualification, and any extra lab, placement or student-service charges. Check when payments fall due and whether later years can cost more.
Living costs at your campus
Build a budget for your campus and housing contract, including the period outside term. Compare rent, utilities, transport and deposits rather than assuming one national living-cost estimate will cover your situation.
Evidence of funds is a separate check
Use the official immigration guidance for the current financial evidence requirements. An evidence threshold is not a personal spending forecast. Keep the visa calculation separate from your practical budget and record how funds will be accessible when tuition or rent is due.
Costs before your first class
Allow for document preparation, tests, application charges, immigration costs, health checks where required, insurance, flights and accommodation setup. Keep a contingency for changed travel dates or a delayed start. Do not assume a scholarship or future job will cover expenses already due.
Compare funding offers by the amount actually available, conditions, repayment timing and exchange-rate exposure. Ask whether a deposit is refundable if a visa is refused or your course is deferred. Keep the written policy with your payment receipts.
Read our education loan guidance if borrowing is part of your plan.
Section 5
After graduation: the Graduate route
The Graduate route is available only when its eligibility requirements are met. GOV.UK explains the eligible courses, required study in the UK and application conditions. Check the current route before making a course decision; avoid relying on an earlier intake’s rules or duration.
Plan around your completion date and the expiry of your Student permission. Confirm how the provider reports successful completion, and read the application instructions before you travel or accept work. Moving later to an employment route is a separate process with its own eligibility.
Check eligibility before acceptance
Compare the exact award and delivery arrangements with the current official requirements. Ask the institution to confirm the course details in writing. Keep the qualification decision separate from a prediction about future immigration policy.
Prepare a career plan alongside study
Review relevant roles, professional recognition and the experience employers ask for. Use career services and permitted placement options where available, but plan for the possibility that you do not find an eligible job before your permission ends.
Keep a return-home plan and a budget for the end of the course. Employment, professional registration and permission to remain are separate matters. Neither graduating nor receiving temporary work permission guarantees a job, salary or residence.
Section 6
Intakes and when to start
Check the exact programme page for start dates and deadlines. Undergraduate, postgraduate taught and research applications can follow different processes. Scholarship deadlines may arrive before the admission deadline, and not every course offers an alternative start.
Before applying
Confirm your programme, gather academic evidence and identify funding deadlines. Check the validity of tests and identity documents. Leave time for referees and institutions to respond.
Before accepting
Compare conditions, costs and refund terms. Check whether immigration requirements or accommodation availability change the feasibility of your intended start.
Before travelling
Confirm your permission, housing, enrolment and arrival documents. Ask admissions about a formal deferral if any essential step remains unresolved.
There is no reliable universal application timeline for every applicant. Use official processing information and the institution’s latest instructions, allow for document delays and avoid presenting an estimated date as a promised outcome.

How Linked Global helps with an application to the UK
Shortlisting
We review your academic background, course interests and budget to help you compare realistic options. Ask us to confirm the institutions and services we can support for your chosen destination.
Requirements
We help organise course-specific requirements and identify questions that need a written answer from admissions. The institution decides whether you meet its entry standards.
Application review
We can review the completeness and consistency of your application documents. Your statements must remain truthful and personal, and admission remains the institution’s decision.
Visa preparation
We help organise the evidence against the current official checklist and identify items needing clarification. The immigration authority decides the application; advice must reflect your individual circumstances.
Funding evidence
We help you distinguish tuition, practical living costs and evidence-of-funds requirements. Confirm any lending decision, fees and repayment terms directly with the lender.
Arrival planning
We help identify the practical questions to resolve before departure, including accommodation, insurance and enrolment. Confirm the specific support included in your agreed service scope.
Tell us where you are in the process, including applications already submitted, earlier refusals and any deposit deadlines. We can then discuss an appropriate scope of support. We do not guarantee admission, funding, employment or a visa.
